PORTALS: DUMBO 2011
The inspiration for this body of work stems from years of looking at my surroundings, imagining how things might appear if I could shrink down to an inch tall and go exploring. For the series, I scoured the DUMBO neighborhood and photographed different PORTALS—defined as a doorway, gate, or other entrance—to create 16 macro or near-macro vignettes of drains, cracks, holes or miniature environments I envision as entrances into another world.
I’ve selected eight of these for gallery viewing during the Dumbo Arts Fest 2011, while the remaining eight live in digital format on the web. All 16 have been pinpointed on the PORTALS: DUMBO 2011 map for you to find (thumbnails for the eight shown here;
www.portals.wonderlyimaging.com to view those not printed for the festival).
On your quest, most of the PORTALS are small, not visible at eye-level and may take a little bit of searching to find as they tend to be captured from an unconventional point of view. Happy hunting!
